Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees at University College of Bahrain plays an important part in the running of the University and providing perspective and guidance to the management. The current Board of Trustees Members are: 

Prof. Khalid Al Khalifa is the founder of UCB and has been an academic for over 25 years holding Doctor of Philosophy from University of Northumbria at Newcastle since 2002.

Shaikh Ebrahim bin Khalid Al Khalifa, as the Senior Vice President of Business Development and International & Government Relations at Bapco Energies, is responsible for driving strategic growth and expansion initiatives across the group. He is mandated to identify and capitalize on opportunities that align with Bapco Energies’ mission to deliver sustainable energy solutions. He is also the Chairman of Bapco Air Fueling Company (BAFCO). Prior to joining Bapco Energies, he worked at Bapco Refining where he was responsible for developing strategies to maximize the company’s overall profitability through diversification and innovation. He is also a founding member of the University College of Bahrain since 2002 and worked in the areas of Strategy, Innovation, Administration and Finance. Shaikh Ebrahim attended several executive courses in Strategic Management and Innovation at Harvard University, MIT and London Business School. Currently a PhD Candidate in Engineering at the University of Cambridge, his dissertation is about innovating within the oil and gas industry. He also holds an MBA with distinction from DePaul University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and a BSBA from Suffolk University Sawyer Business School.

Dr. Amina Buallay is a highly accomplished academic and professional with a strong focus on sustainability reporting and management studies. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Management Studies from Brunel University London, specializing in Sustainability Reporting, which she completed in August 2020. In addition, Dr. Buallay earned an MBA with a minor in Accounting from Ahlia University, Bahrain, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Bahrain.

Dr. Buallay has held various leadership and advisory roles, currently serving as the advisor to the chairman of board of trustee at Bahrain college university. Prior to this position, she worked as the Chief of Scientific Research Fund at the Higher Education Council in Bahrain from August 2023 to Oct 2024. The Acting Director of Accreditation and Licensing at the Higher Education Council from August 2022 to August 2023 and as the Chief of Scientific Research Development from October 2018 to July 2022.

In academia, Dr. Buallay is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business Administration at University college of Bahrain and an Associate Member at the School of Business and Quality Management of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University for the academic year 2024/2025, and a former Assistant Professor in the Islamic Finance Department at Abdullah bin Khalid College for Islamic Studies in Bahrain for three academic years (2021-2024). She also served as an external supervisor for MBA students at Kuwait Maastricht College of Management.

With a strong background in project management, Dr. Buallay has coordinated several projects, including her current role as Project Coordinator at Isa Al Kabeer-Al Hedaya Al Khalifia University since April 2021, and previously at Abdullah bin Khalid College for Islamic Studies from February 2018 to June 2019.

Recognized as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, Dr. Buallay has received numerous accolades, including the OAPEC Award for Scientific Research, Rashid Bin Hamid Prize for Culture and Science, the ICAI International Research Awards, the Sharjah Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertations in Administrative Sciences in the Arab Region, and the Exceptional PhD Alumni Award from Brunel University London.

With a strong research profile, Dr. Buallay has published 50 papers in Q1 and Q2 journals, garnering over 6000 citations, with a focus on sustainability reporting, corporate governance, intellectual capital, and innovation.

In addition to her impressive academic and professional achievements, Dr. Buallay is actively involved in various international organizations. She serves as an International Expert at the National Science Centre in Poland, an Executive Member of the Gulf Network for Quality Assurance of Higher Education, and an Advisor to the Education and Training Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is also a member of the Bahrain Economists Society and the Permanent Advisory Committee for Education at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) in Tunis. Furthermore, Dr. Buallay is an Editorial Advisory Board Member for the Journal of Business and Socio-Economic Development, published by Emerald in the UK, and a Guest Editor for the Competitiveness Review Journal, also published by Emerald.

Dr. Fared Al Mulla is the CEO of Oasis Capital Bank B.S.C since 2007, holding PhD in Economics and International Relations from University of Sussex, 1982. Dr. Fared is a financial leader in the banking sector in Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Faisal Alhamer is the Director of Alhamer Trading Est. holding PhD in Health Manpower planning from University of Leeds

Dr. Rana Sawaya Zeitounie  is currently the President of the University College of Bahrain. Dr. Rana holds a Doctorate Degree of Business Administration from Jean Moulin Lyon III University in France (2017), a Master Degree in Business Administration from the Lebanese American University, Lebanon (2003) and a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration from the University of Balamand, Lebanon (1998).
